Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Addis Ababa Tour
Arrival at the airport and transfer to a hotel. Explore the National Museum, home of Lucy, and the Mercato, the largest open-air market in Africa.
Day 2: Menagesha Suba Forest to Wolliso
Drive west to Menagesha Suba National Park for a hike through ancient juniper and redwood forests. Spot endemic bushbucks and baboons before continuing to Wolliso.
Day 3: Wenchi Crater Lake Exploration
Spend the day at Wenchi Crater Lake. Descend into the crater to enjoy the hot springs and take a boat across the lake to visit the island monastery. Return to Wolliso for the night.
Day 4: Jimma and the Palace of Abba Jifar
Travel to the coffee heartland of Jimma. Visit the palace of King Ras Abba Jifar II and explore the history of the coffee trade before continuing to Bonga.
Day 5: Kaffa Region Rainforest and Waterfalls
Explore the Alem Gonna wetlands and the 70-meter high Barta waterfall. Visit a local bee-keeper to learn about organic forest honey production in the heart of the rainforest.
Day 6: Return to Addis Ababa
Drive back to Jimma for your flight to Addis Ababa. In the evening, enjoy a traditional dinner with a live dance show featuring music from across Ethiopia.
Day 7: Drive to Turmi
Begin the southern leg of the trip. Drive to Turmi for an introduction to the Hamer people, walking through their villages and learning about their unique culture.
Day 8: Dassenech and Nyangatom Tribes
Travel to the Omo River to visit the Nyangatom and Dassenech peoples. Spend the day learning about their pastoralist traditions and river-based livelihoods.
Day 9: Karo Tribe and Jinka Museum
Visit the Karo people, known for their intricate body painting. Continue to Jinka to visit the Omo Valley museum for a deeper look at the region’s ethnicities.
Day 10: Mursi Village and Return Flight
Drive into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi tribe. Visit their village to see their world-renowned lip-plates before returning to Jinka for your flight back to Addis Ababa.
